If you or someone you know is age 60 or older and has experienced financial fraud, experienced professionals are standing by at the National Elder Fraud Hotline at 1-833-FRAUD-11 (1-833-372-8311). This Justice Department hotline, managed by the Office for Victims of Crime, can provide personalized support to callers by assessing the needs of the victim and identifying relevant next steps. Case managers will identify appropriate reporting agencies, provide information to callers to assist them in reporting, connect callers directly with appropriate agencies and provide resources and referrals, on a case-by-case basis. Reporting is the first step. Reporting can help authorities identify those who commit fraud and reporting certain financial losses due to fraud as soon as possible can increase the likelihood of recovering losses. The hotline is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. English, Spanish and other languages are available.
More information about the department’s efforts to help American seniors is available at its Elder Justice Initiative webpage. For more information about the Consumer Protection Branch and its enforcement efforts, visit www.justice.gov/civil/consumer-protection-branch. Elder fraud complaints can be filed with the Federal Trade Commission at www.reportfraud.ftc.gov/ or at 877-FTC-HELP. The Justice Department provides a variety of resources relating to elder fraud victimization through its Office for Victims of Crime, which can be reached at www.ovc.gov.

Demanding the Immediate Release of Hostages: Last week, I had the honor of meeting with victims and their families of the October 7 terror attack in Israel. Aviva Siegel, who, together with her husband, Keith, were kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023 have been brutally kidnapped, tortured, starved and held in suffocating tunnels in Gaza. Aviva has since been released, but Keith, remains in captivity along with Romi Garen who was shot and kidnapped after attending the Nova Festival on October 7th . Romi's siblings, Yarden and Matan Gonen, shared with me the amazing courage of Romi, who despite unimaginable pain and suffering, is still in captivity but remains hopeful of being released. The conversation has bolstered my resolve to ensure that Hamas is utterly destroyed and every last hostage makes it home alive. These families deserve to be reunited with their loved ones. The time to act is now!
Celebrating the Season: I enjoyed meeting with community leaders in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties last week during my annual holiday open houses. We talked about ways we can continue to work together to better those we serve.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I’ve been talking to Pete since his nomination, and I think he’ll do a great job. He’s a decorated combat veteran and a great pick to run the Department of Defense. I am really appreciative of anyone that’s willing to put on the uniform and risk their life to defend our freedoms. Pete understands the mission and what is needed to advance President Trump’s agenda and reform the DoD to make America’s military the world’s most lethal fighting force. He understands the sacrifice our military and their families make because he’s been to war, led his fellow servicemen and women in combat, and knows individuals who have lost their life or been gravely injured defending our nation. Pete knows how to hold people accountable, make sure we promote based on meritocracy, and get rid of the broken, woke policies implemented by the Biden administration. He has my full support and I look forward to voting to confirm him as Secretary of Defense.”

OH THOSE HUMAN DIFFERENCES
Proverbs 3: 5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Recently in a meeting of ministers, I have never felt so short and wide. One of the attendees was about 6’ 6” and probably weighed about 130 pounds.
Realizing that humans look and think as much alike as daylight and dark, our variances are intriguing and create in some of us a state of curiosity.
Physiologically we are as different internally as we are externally. Physiological (relating to the branch of biology that deals with the normal functions of living organisms and their parts) we are defined by numerous factors.
We humans work out, go to the gym, walk/jog/run, diet and take billions of dollars in vitamin and supplement pills to change our bodies. We want to feel better, look better and in some cases appeal to the opposite sex.
Our ancestry, nutritional variations, body chemistry and even our environmental circumstances establish in us distinctions that superficially we cannot explain. Very few people seem to be satisfied with their bodily characteristics.
We can choose our nutritional and exercise programs but it’s impossible to choose our ancestors. Such ailments as heart disease, diabetes and even cancer propensity appear to have heredity followings.
Regardless of our disease/condition, ancestral proclivity, we do have a few conditions in our lives we can control. Among those are nutrition and exercise. Our exposure to pollutants can be controlled with limited success. To be in a room with a smoker gives us reason to know where the door is located.
1 Timothy 4:8 “For bodily exercise profits little: but Godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” Notice the words “profits little.” If God was telling us it profits none, it would have said that.
Numerous places in the Bible we are told to run. “Isaiah 40: 31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
This verse is telling us to find our strength in the Lord and that is great advice but it can also be referring to endurance. Physical exercise builds endurance, especially cardio-vascular exercise such as running or bicycling.
Endurance, mental, emotional and physical, is of great benefit for those called to promote the Gospel of our Jesus. If one’s purpose in life is to lead others to Christ, we must be strong to endure the work Jesus assigned to us (Matthew 28: 18-19).
The Bible also acknowledges the mind-body connection. Proverbs 17: 22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
Have you ever felt really down, to the point of depression? Then the grandchildren came to visit or your dog came along and appeared to think you were the grandest person to ever live. It’s really interesting how one’s attitude and self-concept can quickly change. The improvement may be temporary but life is better.
We can also take this as a lesson to build people up (encourage) rather than to criticize. When a person, especially children, hears nothing but negativism, what can we expect them to become? Do you want to make an enemy for life? Humiliate or insult them!
Many parents today are using the TV or smart phone for a baby-sitter. This negligent practice not only contributes to the dumbing of future generations but contributes to the ignorance that affects decision making processes.
Proverbs 22: 6 “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Failure to heed this scriptural admonition contributes to the degradation of our world societal status and will proliferate as technology proceeds with the development of more “toys” that teach harmful values.
Proverbs 22: 7 “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.” Such a dire warning of the dangers of debt should be a red flag warning to individuals and governments but greed and blindness prohibits that from happening.
These examples are only a few of the reasons our human differences are so segmented and divergent. The only solution is to return to the teachings of God in the Holy Bible. The problems of this world have a solution and the only barrier to these Biblical teachings is people.
We are spiritual beings. I Corinthians 6: 19 “What, Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
God made us with our physical and mental variances for a reason. To believe He has a purpose for all of us may seem to stretch the imagination for many but the Bible clearly states Jesus came to save all, (John 3: 17) not just a select few.
The Bible also tells us unequivocally God Jesus called the Apostle Paul to take the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 3: 15). As different physically as we may be, Christ died for the remission of sin of the world.

An American City Without A Conscious...
Daniel Penny has been acquitted by a jury who agreed that what he did was not intentional nor was it outright murder, but rather self-defense. This man did not go out looking for trouble. What makes this case remarkable is the history of New York after the 1960s Kitty Genovese case came to light. Anyone over 60 years old might remember this infamous and tragic case. In this horrific murder, the theme pushed by the New York Times was that 38 New Yorkers witnessed a murder from their windows or a short distance away, and no one did anything about it. The murderer even had time to leave the scene and come back later to finish the job. For decades after the Kitty Genovese case, New Yorkers were left unfairly stigmatized by this perception that no one wanted to get involved at any level, which inferred to the nation and the world that New Yorkers had no heart or conscious. Whether this is true or not, it is refreshing to see the likes of Daniel Penny, a once active-duty Marine, decide to intervene when he felt the threat was real to others and himself. In my eyes, what he did took courage to do and at a risk to his own well-being. He is what we need today, people willing to step in when the situation needs a hero. Since our society, largely in liberal areas, seems to frown on people stepping up to save others, it's no wonder why people flock to hero/heroine movies such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, and the rest of the DC and Marvel superhero cast. They are looking for someone they can hold up as a savior figure. They are looking for a Kato (Bruce Lee) or Clint Eastwood character to come to their rescue when they find themselves confronted by bad men... So, is it true that New Yorkers have no heart or conscious? You decide...
To look further into the Kitty Genevese case, click on the following link. Below this link is an excerpt from History.com about this case...
Kitty Genovese ‑ Case, Murder & Bystander | HISTORY
"Kitty Genovese was returning from work home at around 2:30 a.m. on March 13, 1964, when she was approached by a man with a knife. Genovese ran toward her apartment building front door, and the man grabbed her and stabbed her while she screamed.
A neighbor, Robert Mozer, yelled out his window, “Let that girl alone!” causing the attacker to flee.
Genovese, seriously injured, crawled to the rear of her apartment building, out of the view of any possible witnesses. Ten minutes later, her attacker returned, stabbed her, raped her and stole her money.
She was found by neighbor Sophia Farrar, who screamed for someone to call the police. Police arrived several minutes later. Genovese died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital."
