Three Family Members Plead Guilty to Smuggling Drugs into Prison

Dear Fellow Floridian,

One of my main goals as Governor and as your U.S. Senator has been for hardworking families to keep as much of their hard-earned money as possible at tax time. As Florida’s Governor, I cut taxes 100 times which saved Floridians more than $10 billion. Now, thanks to President Trump’s Working Family Tax Cuts — which I was proud to help negotiate and vote for — Republicans were able to cut taxes even more at the federal level and deliver for the American people.

This tax season, Americans experienced the highest refunds ever in U.S. history. Hardworking families in Florida and around the country saw no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security for most seniors, a permanent increase in the child tax credit, and tax refunds averaging over $3,400, a roughly 11% increase compared to the same period last year! These cuts marked significant tax reduction for working families, boosting real take-home pay by up to as much as $6,800 in Florida.

While Democrats continue to vote to raise taxes on Americans, Senate Republicans and President Trump stand firm in delivering fiscal sanity and fighting to keep more money in the hands of hardworking Florida families. I am proud to serve you, and I will continue to work hard every day to lower taxes and increase opportunities for Americans to get ahead.

Aside from Tax Day, many Floridians also honored Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day last week. I hope each of you join together in remembering the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust, honoring the survivors who have bravely shared their stories, and renewing our commitment to ‘Never Again’ let such evil take place.

I am proud to serve on the Council of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. If you plan to visit our nation’s capital, I hope you will take a moment to visit this important institution. Holocaust denial is at an all time high, and the museum does so much to combat this denial and educate the public on the Holocaust and our continued fight against all forms of antisemitism. Acts 1: 8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Have you ever known where you were, but not exactly? We were working an area in East Africa north of Nairobi Kenya, in the Embu province somewhere between Kerugoya and Nyeri.

Not knowing exactly where we were prohibits me from giving an exact location; however we knew Nairobi was south of us and that was enough.

This is in the Mt Kenya (17,057 feet) area. Being the second highest mountain in Africa, it is a sight to behold. With its rugged peaks, that mountain has a beauty all its own.

Traveling through such an area preaching the Gospel is a unique experience and one I would like to have again. We met some unique people and found the Africans to be very gracious.

It was not uncommon for villagers to invite us to a meal. To feast on githeri, a mixture of corn and beans is a pleasant surprise, especially when one has been walking the bush or jungle for hours.

Where there were roads, we had an old Toyota pick-up truck we used for a speaker’s stand. With microphones and speakers in the back, we would pull into a market, town or village and someone would speak to gather a crowd. Then one of us would provide, with an interpreter, a Gospel message.

The people were anxious to meet and talk with us. One man wanted his grandson to meet me. He left for a while; then returned with a young boy about seven, maybe eight years old.

I was the first white man the little boy had ever seen. He could not take his eyes off me. White man in Swahili is “Wazungu.” He could not stop staring at my blue green eyes. My eye color was a new experience for him.

In one village we were called the “Umbaba” meaning “going around in circles.” The British occupied Kenya until 1963 and the nationals saw them as constantly “going around in circles” thus the name.

In other villages the children always gathered around to get a closer look and feel. They always wanted to feel my arms. The African men have no hair on their arms so here I was the main attraction once again. Thinking of the children running their hands over my arms still brings a smile.

In the market in Embu, was a vegetable stand; it had plantain. I’d never eaten plantain and thought it was a kind of banana. I bought one for two schillings and proceeded to try to peel it like a banana.

My trusty pocket knife managed to get into the “tasty” part. Not realizing it had to be cooked, it puckered me up like a persimmon and the locals couldn’t stop laughing. Laughing when puckered is not easy but an effort was made.

One man that educated the Wazungu wore one flip-flop on his right foot. He only had one toe on that foot and none on his left foot. He was probably seventy plus years old and had walked so many miles on the sandy trails and roads, the abrasion had worn off all his toes but one.

His flip-flop was wired to the one toe. He didn’t seem to be in pain and appeared to be a happy guy. We sat on a log by the entrance to the market. I explained to him the beliefs of Christianity. He prayed to receive Jesus on that log that sunny day in East Africa. What a great blessing that was for both of us!

When we leave such a place, we know we’ll probably never be back. Parting words are usually “If I don’t see you again here on earth, I’ll see you in Heaven.”

Another time we were close to the Indian Ocean. In one village an elderly lady received Jesus. I’ll never forget the tears in her eyes as she heard the Gospel story. No one had ever told her that God loved her so much He was willing to shed His blood and die for her so she could have eternal life.

The next Sunday the Utange church held a baptism in the ocean about two miles from the church. She walked for those two miles, barefoot on a gravely road to be baptized. I will never forget the look on her face when she came up out of the water.

Christ Jesus voluntarily, sacrificially shed His blood, gave His life for the sin of all mankind. Salvation is because of His sacrifice; because of what He did.

We have found people of many nationalities, many ethnic groups, many skin colors, and many other differences that embrace Jesus when they hear of His sacrifice because of His love for them.

We must always teach that eternal salvation is attained by a faith based belief (Ephesians 2: 8) in Christ Jesus crucified (Matthew 27: 35) for the remission of sin (1 John 1: 9), resurrected (Matthew 28: 6) and ascended alive in to Heaven (Acts 1: 9).

Reaching people for the Lord Jesus has been one of the most satisfying and blessed things I have ever participated in. We don’t have to go to the ‘uttermost parts of the earth” to find someone to tell. Go for the blessing and tell someone. You’ll be glad you did and so will they.

U.S. Foreign Service Officers are the face of America abroad. Posted in embassies and consulates across the globe, they are tasked with managing relationships with foreign nations, negotiating with foreign governments, analyzing the impact of changing political dynamics on America’s standing in the world, and advocating for American interests with close allies and fierce adversaries alike. It is a vocation with unprecedented stakes.

Today’s American diplomats navigate great-power rivalries, defuse global crises, and protect Americans and their interests in every corner of the globe. Their predecessors have forged miracles, averted apocalypse, and transformed America from a fledgling agricultural republic to the most powerful nation on Earth.

This vital work places Foreign Service Officers within the storied tradition of American diplomacy -- a tradition which has proven indispensable for the security, prosperity, and global ambitions of the United States from its very founding to the present day.

This calling is as old as America itself. In early 1776, the Continental Congress secretly dispatched Silas Deane to France to begin negotiating support for the cause of American independence. Six months after the United States formally declared independence from Britain, Benjamin Franklin traveled to Paris in a bid to win support for the fledgling American cause.

The French covertly supported the Americans at first, then signed treaties in 1778 formally recognizing the United States. The spirit of 1776 triumphed in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, with the United States recognized as a sovereign state by the British crown.

Without diplomats like Deane and Franklin, there would be no United States. The story of American diplomacy is inseparable from the story of America itself.

American diplomacy secured the territory that would make the United States a continental power, negotiated trade that would build the largest economy on Earth, and established alliances that ultimately made America the most powerful nation in the world. From the Monroe Doctrine to the reassertion of American leadership in the Western Hemisphere, diplomats have been at the center of the most decisive moments in American history.

But as America emerged as the global superpower, the focus of our foreign policy drifted away from our national interest. Policymakers and diplomats alike became preoccupied with multilateralism and global governance.

Enamored by the siren song of the ‘end of history,’ America’s political class lost sight of the purpose of our foreign policy, and with it, the purpose of our Foreign Service.

America’s national interest succumbed under the weight of unaccountable international institutions, pragmatic statecraft was replaced with heady idealism, and extreme ideological dogmas supplanted merit. Our political class allowed America’s Foreign Service to atrophy, even as our strategic competitors worked to steadily erode the unipolar order.

History hasn’t ended. It’s still being made, and America’s Foreign Service must be at the forefront of crafting a future in which America maintains its strength, its sovereignty, and the self-confidence to unapologetically pursue its national interest.

Our present moment requires a foreign policy that makes America safer, stronger, and more prosperous, bolstered by an elite diplomatic corps united in a shared mission. Under President Trump, this mission is clear: to put America first.

This is why the State Department has undertaken efforts to bolster Foreign Service recruitment efforts and refine the selection process to ensure that our diplomatic mission is prepared to deliver America’s answer to the most pressing of challenges, from the reorientation of supply chains to mass migration and beyond.

Under President Trump, the Department has removed DEI excesses from Foreign Service hiring and refocused our entrance exams to better measure intellect and relevant knowledge. New officers are being taught serious diplomatic history, tradecraft, and the basics of America First foreign policy rather than sitting through bureaucratic tedium. High-performing officers can be promoted to leadership positions younger rather than being stuck in the bowels of the bureaucracy. We’re building a diplomatic corps that leverages American power to get results for our country anywhere in the world.

Franklin may have been one of America’s first diplomats, but the virtues he embodied are the same ones that our Foreign Service Officers must strive towards today. Franklin was wise and tactful, magnetic and persuasive, determined yet patient. His compatriots noted Franklin’s unshakeable confidence and composure in even the most consequential of situations. Most vitally, Franklin possessed an unyielding commitment to the cause of the United States, granting him the strength to marshal these many virtues in the service of a nascent country that would one day call him a founding father.

Our modern age requires great Americans who strive towards the ideal presented by Franklin, who are driven at their core by a love of country, who too bring their intellect, their talent, and their resolve, to the service of our nation. To join the Foreign Service is not only to be weaved into this rich history but to, like Franklin, become the face of America and act on history as it’s made.

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Citrus County Jail is at the center of a major federal crackdown after an 18-month investigation exposed a sophisticated smuggling ring involving inmates, outside associates, and facility staff.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that eight individuals now face indictments for flooding the CoreCivic-operated facility with narcotics, cell phones, and other illegal goods.

The investigation was sparked by a single discovery: a federal inmate caught with a prohibited cell phone. What started as a routine check evolved into a massive multi-agency operation involving the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Marshals Service, the DEA, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Supporting Vulnerable Populations: Last week, I was proud to attend the grand opening of the Pasco Vincent House Tiny Homes - an innovative and impactful project made possible through a federal grant I was honored to help secure. This initiative provides more than just housing; it offers stability, dignity, and a pathway to independence for individuals coping with mental illness through job coaching and critical support services. Building on this success, I have already sponsored an additional grant request to expand this model in Pasco County and bring it to Hernando County as well.

At the same time, I am working in Washington to address a serious and unacceptable flaw in our Medicaid system that is denying some of our most vulnerable children access to essential care. A technical gap in federal law is disrupting coverage for foster youth at the very moment they often require the most intensive mental health services - cutting off therapy, medication, and continuity of care when stability is critical. I am proud to be working in a bipartisan manner to fix this issue and ensure that no child loses access to care due to bureaucratic shortcomings. We have a responsibility to protect those who cannot advocate for themselves, and I will continue fighting to ensure no child falls through the cracks. Read more about our efforts here.

Safeguarding Emergency Communication: As automakers increasingly transition to fully digital dashboards, some are considering eliminating AM radio from new vehicles. This raises serious public safety concerns. AM radio has long served as a reliable and often lifesaving source of emergency alerts, public safety updates, and local news - especially during natural disasters when other communication systems may fail. That is why I am continuing to push legislation to ensure AM radio remains accessible in all vehicles. This effort is not about preserving the past - it is about protecting a critical tool that Americans rely on in times of crisis. Click here to learn about my efforts.

Strengthening Our Supply Chains: There is growing bipartisan recognition that our nation’s reliance on foreign supply chains - particularly for essential medications - poses a significant national security risk. Through my work on the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition and the Health Subcommittee, I am advancing solutions to strengthen domestic medical manufacturing. By reducing our dependence on foreign sources, we can build a more secure, resilient, and reliable supply of critical medicines for the American people. Keeping Dangerous Drugs Off Our Streets: I am also actively working to combat the spread of a highly potent synthetic drug known as 7OH, which is being dangerously marketed to young people. This substance has been linked to overdoses and poses a serious threat to our communities. I have introduced legislation aimed at cracking down on its distribution and ensuring it is kept off our streets. Protecting our children and families from these dangerous substances remains a top priority.

Providing Tax Relief for Working Families: Through the Working Families Tax Cuts, we are taking meaningful steps to provide financial relief to hardworking Americans. This includes cutting taxes, expanding deductions, and ensuring families can keep more of what they earn. Key provisions include eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, enhancing the Child Tax Credit, and introducing a new $6,000 deduction for seniors. Florida’s agriculture industry isn’t just a critical part of our state’s economy; it’s an essential part of our way of life. We have our farmers, growers, ranchers, and producers to thank for putting food on our tables to providing families across our great state with a good-paying job and the opportunity to live their American Dream. As your U.S. Senator, I was grateful to sit down with members of our agricultural community in Clewiston this week to thank them for all that they do, hear more about what they’re facing, and see how I can continue fighting for them and for Florida.

It’s no secret that our agricultural community faced storms and freezes over the years that have put them all in a tough spot. I’ve been fighting every day to get them the help they need, and thanks to President Trump, our farmers, growers, and producers are getting the help they deserve. This is good for Florida families, and it’s good for our country!

From rocket launches to tributes honoring former prisoners of war, there is never a dull moment in the Free State of Florida. Over the past two weeks, I met with constituents, supported our veterans, and helped seniors learn how to spot and avoid scams.

On April 1, hundreds of seniors joined us in The Villages for our “Don’t Be Fooled by Scams” workshop, where local, state, and federal agencies shared information on common and emerging scams. That evening, Florida made history with the launch of Artemis II from the Space Coast, and I later had the opportunity to talk with the crew in space as they traveled back from the moon.

In Jacksonville, we broke ground on a new Veterans Village that will serve more than 100 Florida veterans at a time, providing mental health services, substance abuse counseling, and job training. I also joined former prisoners of war at the National POW/MIA Museum and announced my Senate effort to designate the Jacksonville museum as a national landmark.

In Tampa, I discussed what makes Florida great with Citigroup employees and presented a Florida’s Finest Award to an off-duty cardiac nurse who saved a man suffering a heart attack. In Gainesville, I met with 150 Florida farmers to discuss recovery efforts after freezes, droughts, and hurricanes. We ended the recess in Pasco County, where I joined survivors in raising awareness about child sexual abuse.

While it is always good to be back in Florida, we have important work back in Washington. I will take the concerns I heard from Floridians across our state back to D.C. and keep fighting for you.

While we, as a nation, and the world, are focused on the Middle East and Iran, there is an equally important danger that has been festering just below our southern borders. A few days ago, it exploded in a major way when Mexican military forces killed Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” one of the world’s most wanted cartel leaders. Most of us likely saw the fiery aftermath of his killing as his army of thugs retaliated throughout Mexico, burning, killing, and terrorizing citizens and businesses. These are ruthless, heartless, and fearless hombres who will maim, torture, and kill at the drop of a dime. The fear is that what we witnessed in Mexico could spill into our own neighborhoods. So, as the saying goes, do we fight them here on our soil, or theirs before they can come after us? Donald Trump believes we should take them on, but on their turf. As we all know, these narco-terrorists, through the drugs they smuggle into our country, have killed hundreds of thousands of Americans. Other presidents have done little or nothing to stop this madness and these deaths. This president is like no other. He has conviction. And he knows he has at his disposal the most lethal military force on the planet, and perhaps in all of history. Do we fight, or do we submit? That is the question.

So, who are these cartels that know no fear and believe they can put Satanic fear into our hearts as they have with their fellow citizens? They are thugs who fear no police force and no military they have gone up against. Through bribery and corruption of public officials in Mexico, they have grown in numbers and have thrived under such conditions, conditions they brought about through fear, intimidation, and death. These dangerous cartels go by the following names... Cártel de Jalisco Nueva Generación, Cártel de Sinaloa, Cártel del Golfo, La Familia Michoacana, Cártel de Santa Rosa de Lima y Cártel de Juárez. To date, they have not been introduced to our boys, as far as we know. I believe this will happen sooner rather than later. They have already kidnapped 10 mine workers who were geologists, mineral specialists, scientists, and so on. Five of them were found dead, and five are still missing. Why should we care about this? At this point in time, silver is the coveted metal of all nations. There’s a major shortage that already exists. In many countries, including the United States, silver has been labeled a critical material vital to our national defense. Any disruption of the flow of silver is considered by Washington to be unacceptable and will not be tolerated. And let us not forget the loss of life as a result of the drugs smuggled inside our borders, these fiends have caused. I believe most of us want peace and goodwill throughout the world. But there is evil in the world. Sometimes we are forced to stand up and fight for what we believe in. These disciples of Hell couldn’t care less what we Americans believe in. As such, these cartels are about to be introduced to our Special Forces in a major way...

The command has already gone out to Delta Force, SEAL Team Six, U.S. Air Force Combat Controllers, CIA, and DEA Special Tactical Teams, and the 160 SOAR. Their orders are to go after these cartels with or without the consent of the host country and take them down. On standby are U.S. Army Rangers, Army Green Berets, Marine Raiders (MARSOC), Navy SEALs, and the United States Coast Guard. We can never underestimate these narco-terrorists, but our boys have taken on and taken out bigger fish with names like Al Qaeda, Hamas, Boko Haram, Hezbollah, Al Shabaab, and ISIS. Only time will tell who will prevail in the end, the cartels or us. Most agree that something has to be done. The question is whether this is the path we should go down. I believe it’s worth a try... I know our capabilities and what we can do as a nation. And I trust our boys to do the job... What about you? Matthew 25: 40 “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Have you ever heard a sound you could not place? You did not know where it came from or what it was, so you dismissed it and went your way. Then the next day you heard it again. This time, you make a decision to determine the great mystery.

When I was teaching, I would get home from work and go for a run or a bicycle ride. On a ride one warm spring day about ten miles from home I heard what I thought was a whining somewhere along the road.

Thinking my ears were playing tricks, I pedaled on. The next day riding the same route, the sound was heard again. This time I knew I had to stop. Laying my bike in the ditch I proceeded to walk back along the road to try to determine the sound.

About fifty yards behind me was a cardboard box; the noise was coming from the box. Upon examination, I found a litter of puppies. There were seven of them someone had thrown out and left to starve or be eaten by a predator.

Going on home I told wife Margie and said “I’m going back in the truck and get them.” She said “Wait for me!”

We drove out to the place, loaded up the puppies and took them home. They were covered in fleas for which I made a flea treatment bath with warm water and detergent and washed them thoroughly. Margie rinsed them and dried them with her hair dryer. She gave them water and soft food. By then they were really hungry.

Then we called the local animal control office. We were told the officer would come get them and find them a good home. A few weeks later I called her to find out if the puppies had been adopted and she said “Yes they have.”

All is well that ends well and that time it did. However, throwing puppies, kittens or any other animal away like trash takes the lowest form of human life on the face of the earth. Of course that’s just my opinion.

There are numerous actions that might also be classified as inhuman and completely unconscionable. Animal cruelty as in tossing out the puppies is among the top ones. People that abuse others (sexual, mental, physically) are equally uncivilized regardless of the age of the victim.

Another is the Christian that regards the lost/unchurched as disposable or unimportant. If we don’t have a burden for the lost in sin, somewhere, we’ve missed the point of Christianity.

Jesus’ last command to us before He ascended was to be witnesses of Him into this lost and dying world. “Ye shall receive power” is directly referring to the Holy Spirit of God which empowers a Christian. We find the giving of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2: 2-4, just as Jesus said would happen.

We find in Matthew 3: 15 the statement of John the Baptist a short time before Jesus was baptized. “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. But he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire.”

John the Baptist and several Biblical writers reinforce the belief that when one believes, he/she becomes indwelt with the Holy Spirit. In that we were created in God’s image (Genesis 1: 27), we also have a spirit and the combining of His spirit with ours gives us amazing power.

Acts 1: 8 gives four geographical areas “Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the uttermost parts of the earth.” I have come to believe Samaria is not referring to a place but a people. Jesus apparently is telling believers in Him, “Don’t draw physical limitations on those you tell about Me.”

Also we might consider the “uttermost parts of the earth.” We might initially think that is indicating the other side of the planet but not necessarily. A co-worker, a neighbor, classmate or even someone in your own home that you find difficult to reason with might be considered the uttermost.

A woman at church told me about her son-in-law. He laughed at her any time she tried to share Jesus. She was in the uttermost. A neighbor once told me “I don’t want to hear that nonsense!” We were in the uttermost.

Not long ago I was pumping gas into my vehicle. A very large bearded man was pumping on the other side and we struck up a conversation. Into our discussion I asked “Do you believe you have something like a spirit or a soul that will live after you die?” He said “Yes I do.”

Then I asked “Do you believe there is a heaven in which one’s spirit will spend eternity like the Bible indicates?” His answer: “Absolutely!”

“So where do you believe your soul will spend eternity?” “I’m going to Heaven.” Then I asked “Why?”

His answer took me by surprise. “Because I believe Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, He shed His blood and died for my sins on the cross and that He resurrected in three days from the dead.”

It turned out he was a deacon in the church and had worked Christian missions for three decades. Was that a wasted conversation? Absolutely not! Perhaps he will tell someone based on our conversation.

Earlier this week, I was excited to speak with local leaders in Naples about how I am fighting for commonsense federal policy to make homeownership more affordable and achievable for Florida families. I grew up in public housing, and I watched my family struggle to make ends meet. For us, owning a home felt out of reach. Today, many Americans, especially young, first-time buyers, are facing burdensome challenges as they work toward achieving their American Dream. It’s time to fix this, but more government isn’t the answer.

Every time the federal government has inserted itself into a part of our lives, it’s made it more expensive and more complicated. CONNECTING THE DOTS

Exodus 5:1 “And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.”

“Interesting” is not adequate to describe the connections we find throughout the Old Testament to the New Testament in God’s Word, the Holy Bible.

The creation in Genesis 1 connected to John 1: 3 in the NT is an example. I often refer to “God-Jesus” in a prayer or sermon and Christians have asked me why I do that. It’s because the Bible tells us that Jesus was God in a man’s body here on earth (Isaiah 7: 14, 9: 6, John 1: 1).

Genesis 3: 15 “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” This is directly referring to the disdain between Satan and Jesus and is the first of the many prophesies of Jesus’ coming in the Old Testament.

Jesus’ death on the cross and specifically, the shedding of His blood is connected to the Passover 1500 years before He was born. Jesus’ shed blood for the remission of the sins of mankind is our blood on the doorposts and lintels of the Passover. We have been rescued and set free!

Exodus 12: 7 “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.”

The Hebrew people had been in Egypt for 430 years. At some point in that time the Egyptians became afraid because their numbers were increasing so prolifically, they would rise up against the Egyptians and take over the country.

This fear (at a time in that 430 years which we do not know) led to the enslavement of the Hebrews. They cried out to the Lord for their freedom because of their oppression.

God sent Moses and his brother Aaron to Egypt to broker their freedom and deliver God’s spoken word to Pharaoh (king of Egypt) “Let my people go.”

God hardened Pharaoh’s heart so he would not release the Hebrews. To convince Pharaoh, the Egyptians and perpetually, the world and history, of God’s omnipotent power, He sent plagues on Egypt.

The tenth and final of the plagues was the death of the firstborn (Exodus 11). God sent the death angel on Passover. Its purpose was to kill the firstborn of every family and their livestock.

The death of the firstborn was the final plague and the one that convinced Pharaoh to release the Hebrews slaves.

Their release came suddenly. The significance of unleavened bread is connected to that rush to leave Egypt. The Hebrew women traditionally made bread in the morning using yeast. Yeast causes the dough to rise.

I occasionally get in a bread making mode. My last recipe called for a two hour wait after the initial mixing. The dough literally doubled in size. Then I rolled it out, cut the rolls and wait another two hours for it to further rise. After that four hour plus wait, I place the rolls in the oven.

On the morning of the Hebrew’s release from Egypt, there was no time to wait for the bread to rise; thus, the connection to unleavened bread.

The date of the Passover (because calendars did not exist as we use today) is established the same as Easter. Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere.

Jesus’ presence on Passover weekend in Jerusalem was not a coincidence. The Passover celebration was specifically recognition of the sacrificial ritual. The crucifixion on that weekend reflects that concept.

God instructed Moses and Aaron to tell the Hebrew people to kill a one year old lamb without blemish as a sacrifice. Smear it’s blood on the doorposts and lintels (door frame) of their houses and the death angel would “pass over” them.

The significance of blood is stated in Leviticus 17: 11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls.” God tells us that blood is alive (with which science agrees).

Hebrews 9: 22 also (New Testament) gives us a substantiating statement “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission of sin.”

We must acknowledge, the shed blood of Jesus is complete for eternal salvation. Jesus became the complete and final sacrifice. After the Passover, the Jewish people continued to take their sacrifices to the altar for 1500 years as an atonement for their sin.

Jesus changed all that. His blood is our atoning sacrifice. That is all we need! That is sufficient! By our faith based belief in Him, we are saved!

As we examine the scriptures and connect the dots, we clearly see the related concepts between the Passover blood and our crucified Christ Jesus. Jesus became our “blood on the doorposts” and gave us by grace and mercy, eternal life.

Grace is the unmerited (undeserved) mercy/favor of God. We cannot earn it by our actions; only by believing in the slain lamb of God, Christ Jesus.

A question that may arise is; should Christians celebrate Passover? Celebrate may not be an applicable term but we should be aware of the significance and connection of the blood on the doorpost and our crucified Savior.

Jesus is that slain lamb that provides eternal life for the believer.
